Final musings from a spring that essentially began with drama (Tee Shepard), added more drama (Aaron Lynch) and ended with the promise of more drama (uncertainty at quarterback).
Which loss hurts more — Shepard or Lynch?
On the one hand, Notre Dame is thin at cornerback, and Shepard’s loss magnifies recent recruiting misses at the spot.
That said, Lynch was a once-a-decade player and he was a known commodity, whereas Shepard had never played a down.
Two years from now, expect Lynch to be preparing for the NFL Draft.
Who wins the quarterback competition?
Kelly handled it vaguely enough that it would be a surprise to see any of the signal-callers leave, as Zach Frazer did following the 2007 derby.
Prior to the spring game, the best guess was Andrew Hendrix holding the spot warm until Gunner Kiel is ready.
After the spring game, the best guess is that Andrew Hendrix or Everett Golson will hold the spot until Gunner Kiel is ready.
A meatgrinder schedule figures to make a switch to Kiel later in the year a possibility.
An early guess-timation about the 2012 season? Sorry, but 7-5 looks like a real possibility.
The losses? Michigan, Michigan State, Miami or Stanford, Oklahoma and USC.
