Based on a Saturday tweet, Notre Dame has picked up the 18th commitment to its 2013 class.
On Saturday, Katy, Texas running back Jamel James tweeted about joining Notre Dame’s recruiting class.
“Good to be apart of the #Irishmob13,” James tweeted.
James could not be reached for comment and Notre Dame officials aren’t allowed to comment on prospects until they’ve signed a letter of intent.
James, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound running back at Cinco Ranch High, who reportedly runs a 4.45 40-yard sprint, becomes the first commitment in the 2013 class at the running back position. The Irish hadn’t received a verbal commitment from an offensive player since tight end Mike Heuerman committed back in April.
According to MaxPreps.com, James rushed for 1,011 yards on 182 carries with 16 touchdowns as a junior. 247Sports.com rates James as a four-star prospect and the No. 15 running back in the 2013 class. Rivals.com rates James as three-star running back and the 83rd best prospect in Texas.
2014 offers extended
A pair of teammates at East Lake High in Tarpon Springs, Fla., reported Notre Dame offers via Twitter on Saturday.
Wide receiver Artavis Scott (5-11, 180) and offensive tackle Mason Cole (6-5, 267) both class of 2014 recruits, are currently on a Midwest swing of visits.
Scott told the Tribune he and Cole would be visiting Notre Dame on Monday after making trips to Ohio State and Michigan this weekend.
